Biography
Wayne Rooney once described John Cleland as his natural successor in the England team, and it isn't hard to see why. Cleland resembles the Manchester United man both facially and in a footballing sense, and also shares his zen-like sense of calm.
Cleland holds the world record for consecutive Cruyff turns, currently standing at 7, although concerns have been expressed about the quality of measurement techniques, and some feel the actual figure could be closer to 12. At any rate, Cleland never fails to leave defenders baffled by his array of tricks. In the past year, four opposition players have been hospitalised with severe concussion, having fallen over from dizziness after watching Cleland turning on the ball.
